Planning a party in Bend? Whether it’s a backyard BBQ, a graduation bash, a wedding reception, or just a big gathering of friends, a keg is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to keep the beer flowing all night long. If you’ve been searching “keg rental near me” here in Central Oregon, you’ve come to the right place.  3rd Street Beverage on NE 3rd Street has you covered.

Here’s everything you need to know about renting a keg in Bend.

Why a Keg Is the Smart Choice for Your Bend Event

Let’s be real: buying case after case of beer for a big party gets expensive, heavy, and wasteful fast. A keg solves all three problems at once. A standard half-barrel keg (the most common size) holds the equivalent of about 165 twelve-ounce servings — that’s roughly 7 cases of beer in one container that fits neatly in a tub of ice.

For Bend events in particular, kegs make a lot of sense. We live in a town built around outdoor gatherings;  river floats, tailgates for the Bend Elks, post-ski hangs after a day at Mt. Bachelor, backyard concerts, and neighborhood parties. A keg fits that lifestyle perfectly. It’s easy to set up, keeps beer fresher than bottles or cans once tapped, and creates that fun, communal energy that’s very much a part of life here in Central Oregon.

Keg Rental at 3rd Street Beverage: How It Works

At 3rd Street Beverage, we make keg rentals simple. Here’s the process:

1. Reach Out Early

The more notice you give us, the better — especially if you have a specific beer in mind. Contact us at kegs@3rdstreetbeverage.com with your event date, estimated headcount, and any beer preferences. Our beer team will work with our distributors to source what you’re looking for.

That said, don’t panic if your party crept up on you. We keep popular styles on hand for last-minute occasions so even a same-week request often works out.

2. Choose Your Keg Size

We carry kegs in multiple sizes to match the scale of your gathering:

  • 1/2 barrel (full keg) — ~15.5 gallons, ~165 twelve-oz servings. Best for large parties of 50+ guests.
  • 1/4 barrel (pony keg) — ~7.75 gallons, ~82 servings. Great for medium-sized gatherings.
  • 1/6 barrel (sixtel) — ~5.16 gallons, ~55 servings. Perfect for smaller parties or when you want to offer two different beers.

Not sure which size is right for you? A good rule of thumb: plan for about one to two beers per person per hour, and round up. It’s always better to have a little left over.

3. Rent Your Dispensing Equipment

Don’t have a tap setup at home? No problem. We have taps and tubs available for rent (deposit and rental fees apply). Our team can walk you through everything you need to pour a proper pint — no prior keg experience required.

4. Pick It Up and Party

Swing by our store at 740 NE 3rd Street, Suite 5 in Bend, load up your keg and equipment, and get your party started. We’re open Monday through Wednesday 9am–8pm, Thursday through Saturday 9am–9pm, and Sunday 10am–8pm (check our open hours on our website as hours occasionally change) — so there’s plenty of time to pick up before your event.

Tips for a Smooth Keg Party in Bend

Keep it cold. Kegs should be kept at 38–40°F. Fill your tub with ice before the keg arrives and replenish throughout the party. In Bend’s summer heat, this matters more than you’d think.

Let it settle. If the keg gets jostled during transport, let it rest for at least 30–60 minutes before tapping. This prevents a foamy mess when you pour the first pint.

Use the right CO2 pressure. Most keg setups work best at 10–12 PSI. If your beer is coming out too foamy or too flat, the pressure is the first thing to adjust.

Plan for your crowd. A half-barrel for 25 people is a lot of beer. A sixth-barrel for 60 people is not enough. When in doubt, our team can help you size things correctly when you reach out.

Return equipment clean. When you return taps and tubs, a quick rinse goes a long way and keeps the deposit process smooth.

  • Yes, deposits are required on keg rental equipment (taps, tubs, etc.). Deposits are refunded when equipment is returned in good condition. We'll walk you through the deposit details when you place your order.
  • Kegs should be kept at 38–40°F for best pour quality and flavor. The most common method is placing the keg in a large tub filled with ice — make sure the tub is big enough to surround most of the keg. Keep replenishing the ice throughout your party, especially during Bend's warm summer months. Avoid letting the keg get warm, as this leads to flat, foamy beer.
  • Don't tap it right away! If a keg gets jostled or shaken during transport, let it rest for at least 30–60 minutes before tapping. The CO₂ inside gets agitated when the keg is moved, and tapping it too soon is the #1 cause of an overly foamy first pour. Patience pays off here.
  • The most common culprit is CO₂ pressure. Most keg setups pour best at 10–12 PSI. If your beer is too foamy, lower the pressure slightly. If it's too flat or pours slowly, increase it a little. Temperature is the other big factor — warm beer foams more, so make sure your keg stays properly iced. If you're still having trouble, give us a call and we'll help troubleshoot.
  • A standard half-barrel keg holds about 165 twelve-oz servings. A good rule of thumb is to plan for 1–2 drinks per person per hour, then round up a bit — it's always better to have a little left over than to run out mid-party. Not sure what size to get? Tell us your headcount and event length when you reach out and we'll help you size it right.
  • Absolutely — and this is one of our specialties. Bend has an incredible craft beer scene, and we're proud to work with local breweries including Deschutes, Crux, Cascade Lakes, Good Life, Silver Moon, Worthy, Sunriver, Bend Brewing Company, and more. • Simply bring the keg and all rented equipment back to our store during normal business hours. A quick rinse of the taps before return goes a long way and helps ensure a smooth deposit refund process. We'll inspect the equipment and process your deposit return at that time.
  • At this time, kegs are available for in-store pickup only at our 3rd Street location. If you have questions about logistics or special circumstances, feel free to reach out to our team at kegs@3rdstreetbeverage.com and we'll do our best to help.
